Vision, Direction – Something To Excite…………..

Last week I got a Tweet from a Tweep!

@NewMediaDS said they had taken a look at this blog and asked what the main goal of my site was?

Good question.

It took me a while to respond – truth being told I never thought about a goal. I’ve been blogging for over ten years – started on MySpace and then moved to BlogSpot – my writing has evolved. Initially I wrote so friends and family could see what I was up to. It was basically a wordy farmer’s wife journal. I was neither a farmer nor a wife, but I wrote the basic going ons of my day. I kind of wish I could find that old blog, I’m sure my meeting of Hubby is documented. I have no idea how to even begin looking for it, it was so long ago now………

Now I write less about my going ons and more what’s on my heart and mind. Now I do attempt to promote the blog a bit, through twitter, facebook and by reading and commenting on other blogs. Obviously blogging for a living would be a dream come true – I’m sure everyone that blogs thinks that. I don’t really see that ever happening and I don’t actively work toward it.

All that being said I really have no goal for my site, other than to write what’s on my mind. I told @NewMediaDS that. Their response was; “That is a good place to start! Think about creating a vision that your visitors can get excited about ”

This response wasn’t shocking to me; I’ve always known that if I was ever going to stand a chance at being “successful”, a purpose is needed. The Tweet from the Tweep did get me to thinking. Maybe I should come up with more of a format??

I brought up the whole idea with my dear Ma and fellow blogger – (check her out here). Her blog does have a vision and goal and she has ideas of where she’d like it to go and what she’d like to accomplish. Through our conversation it became evident to me that it just didn’t feel right to manipulate what I write about, to focus and direct the blog.

My post from Friday – Stay In The Pool – came to mind. In this case my pool is more like a lake that I am meandering in, swimming here and there; we need some things in life that are like that. This blog is my meandering lake. I know that choosing this path means it will never become a money maker, it will never attract thousands of people because there aren’t thousands of people on this planet that are interested in what goes on in this brain of mine.

I suppose my goal is to share what’s on my heart and to have as many people that are interested stop by for a cup of java and a “chat”. I know that isn’t all that exciting, but it serves a purpose, it feels right and I have peace about it.

Here’s to an unexciting, meandering, visionless blog…. Thanks for stopping by!!!

  1. Lots of people like unexciting, meandering and vision less....although I don't think I would use those words to describable your blog!! :)

  2. Yes, I'm with Lizzie, none of those words capture the heart of your blog, Jamie! I definitely like hearing what is on your mind, on your heart and bits and pieces of your life. It's refreshing and fills me up---sometimes I think there is such a push to have a brand, a vision, stick with it-sell your readers on it etc---but who do we do this for? Us? Others? God? I don't know...I like blogging without expectations, without a weight or specific purpose. While some days I like to visit those carefully branded blogs, I know what I'm stopping into see...a pretty kitchen counter...whatever...they are not the ones that fill my heart up or where I feel like I know that person. Just sayin...:) Keep at it-as is.

  3. Good for you!

Mine will stay undirectional too. :) This blog is for you- not for any of us. If we like it enough to come back then that's a bonus.

    Happy Monday!

  4. Writing from the heart should be first and foremost; if a vision develops, great, if not...oh well. I say, keep it real and it will eventual meander where it's meant to be. That's my philosophy for my blog anyway.
