I Despise Religion - I Comment Therefore I am....

A fellow blogger occasionaly does a theme called - I comment so therefore I am - she had a post a while back, but I only read yesterday. The post was titled I'm not religous - I comment so therefore I am - check it out here.

I had to comment - below is my comment..........

I despise religion…..

That’s right I have hundreds of posts about my faith in God and Jesus, my “name” is Blessed So and So and I despise religion.

I am not religious, I don’t like to go on and on about what God is against – I am Christian – I do believe that Christ died for my sins and is my Savior and I do believe I am filled with the Holy Spirit and guided by that spirit every second of my life. I believe that being a Christian is nothing about morals and all about Christ’s love for everyone! An individual’s set of morals has little or nothing to do with their beliefs. Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, Atheists, Agonistics and so and so forth can all have excellent morals. Likewise - Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, Atheists, Agonistics and so and so forth can all have really horrible morals.

I also believe that your quality of character, whether or not you are a “good” person isn’t tied to your beliefs. I also believe that time spent trying to “convert” someone from one way or another is a waste. I know for me being a Christian I heard a Johnny Cash song line once – “You ain’t got no argument for what I feel inside.” To me that’s the foundation of it all – I can’t argue what I know in my heart and you can’t argue against it.

Does that make sense? Does it make me sound like a red neck, small town, bigot?? I sure hope not…..

  1. I'm a Christian. But my mom and I totally disagree on it all. She hates that I don't go to church. I guess she thinks that I can't have morals and do right if I don't go get embarrassed by people asking for money I don't have once a week. I just hate organized religion.

    Sorry!

  2. Being religious implies a negative holier-than-thou attitude which puts people on the defensive. I agree; I am Christian which simply means I love God and I believe His Son died so I might live. It does NOT mean I am in anyway better, more moral or sin free. But I am washed cleaned through the blood of Jesus; something He did, not I.
